Welcome! You have discovered the website for FT201 – Screen Language. FT201 is a course in the Department of Film & Television at Boston University. We teach the fundamentals of communicating through audio, still images and moving pictures.
The course has five areas of focus:
- Image: The fundamentals of composition; spatial cues; capturing movement
- Sound: The elements of audio; layering sound; sound and the psyche
- Sequence: The interaction of sound and picture; Associative montage; continuity editing
- New Communication Media: Sharing work via the Worldwide Web; fundamentals of web design; finding an audience online; protocols for uploading and embedding media
- Fiction and Non-fiction Storytelling: The essence of narrative; earning the emotional investment of the viewer; storytelling strategies.
