PHOTO PORTRAIT
For this assignment, each student will be paired with a partner from the class. Working together, the students will create photographic portraits of their partners. Each student will ultimately submit a portfolio of a half a dozen photographs that demonstrate the attributes described directly below.
The following pictures must be in black & white:

The six pictures you select shouldn’t simply satisfy these criteria; each image must be a powerful statement. Images can be powerful because they reveal something profound or because they are interesting from a graphic standpoint. Make sure each of your photos succeeds in at least one of these ways.
The following pictures must be in black & white:
- A portrait that demonstrates modeling— the use of light to bring out form and texture.
- A portrait that focuses on a detail of the subject
- A portrait that uses the borders of the frame for creative and/or expressive effect.
The following pictures must be in color:
- A portrait that uses a light source that is unnatural or not easily identified
- A portrait that incorporates opposite colors
- A portrait that features only “cool” (blue/green) or “warm” (yellow/orange/red) colors
